We have taken our Buckfast queen rearing programme a step further by developing our own carefully selected breeder queens through a rigorous programme of selection and instrumental (artificial) insemination. These breeder queens form the foundation of our queen rearing programme, with grafts taken directly from our selected breeding stock.

Our breeding lines combine proven German, Danish, Italian, and exceptional UK Buckfast genetics. Alongside our own carefully developed breeder queens, we work with breeder queens supplied by one of the UK's leading commercial queen breeders, enabling us to continually strengthen and refine our breeding programme. By combining these renowned bloodlines with our own selective breeding, we aim to produce queens with excellent vigour, rapid spring build-up, outstanding productivity, gentle temperament, and exceptional honey-gathering ability, well suited to UK conditions.

Each queen is reared and open-mated in our dedicated Queen breeding apiaries in Oxfordshire. We carefully manage our mating locations to help maintain the quality and consistency of our Buckfast breeding programme.

Buckfast bees are renowned for their fast spring development, strong foraging ability, impressive honey production, and calm, gentle nature. These qualities make them an excellent choice for both hobbyist and commercial beekeepers.

Please note: These queens are open mated, meaning they mate naturally with drone bees from the surrounding area. While we carefully select our mating locations to encourage desirable Buckfast characteristics, the genetics of local drones cannot be fully controlled. As a result, the offspring of open-mated queens may exhibit some natural variation while retaining the strong qualities of their maternal breeding line.
